Web Design FAQs
Here are the most commonly asked questions about web design and web development.
Our main website packages all include content and range from £868 + VAT upwards to £6,624 + VAT and beyond. Our website projects are invoiced in 3 stages (order placement/design and planning/build completion) to make payment easier for you.
The total price depends on a number of factors. The number of pages required is the main reason that costs vary. The more pages that need to be planned, designed, prepared and built, the more hours it will take.
Other additional costs can include specific functionality such as appointment booking systems. To make a website fully SEO-optimised (Google-friendly) it takes extra time to research your industry, then insert extra code and information during the build, so that will cost more.
We will never recommend something unless we feel you’ll get a return on your investment. For example, a smaller business with a lower-priced product or service will take too long to recoup the cost of a larger, more expensive website, so it wouldn’t be the best solution.
We’ll always be honest and have surprised prospects in the past when we’ve talked them out of having a website at an early start of their business journey, and instead recommended a more feasible marketing strategy.
There are single page websites that can tick this box, but this isn’t something we offer, as we advise against them. Let us explain why.
One page websites are frustrating for users, as they expect to find more information and are disappointed when they don’t. They will then rather quickly skip off somewhere else, which will send signals to Google that there is nothing of value there. Furthermore, there isn’t enough text on a one page website to justify Google bothering to rank the site.
If there isn’t enough budget to have at least a three page website (which can then expand later), we usually advise a cheaper marketing strategy until the business starts to grow enough to justify one and invest in one.
This can vary depending on the amount of pages, content and optimisation that’s been invested, but generally there is rarely much movement in the first three months of launching a new website. It takes time for Google to index it and decide if the content is valuable to an internet user searching for your service or product.
We can provide valuable advice about how to use your Google Business Profile to its greatest advantage, which will help your business become recognised quicker and your website to attract more leads.
Stage 1: Website planning meeting
This is where we get to know about your business.
Stage 2: Sitemap and design/layout choices
We’ll create a diagram that shows you the pages and content of your site, for you to check and approve . We’ll also select and send you some links of pre-built website examples so you can choose your favourite style.
Stage 3: Home page wireframe
We’ll design your home page using our unique Kudos proven method, which attracts and engages with the right prospects for you.
Stage 4: The build
Using the sitemap and design style you’ve approved, we’ll crack on with creating the content and building your site for you.
Stage 5: The reveal
A few days before estimated completion we’ll contact you to arrange a 30 minute video call, or you can visit us at our office, so we can show you a live working version of your website. We’ll take notes of your feedback during this session, then email you a link to the test site and a snaglist document after the reveal, so you can advise of any changes needed. Due to the close attention we pay during the planning meeting, we find that there are usually only a few small changes needed, before being ready to launch.
Stage 6: Final testing and launch
The site will be fully tested on iPhone and Android mobile devices, as well as on the most popular browsers on a computer, to ensure your website views correctly. Your domain name will then be pointed to your site to make available to the public. It can take up to 72 hours for a new website to be viewable on the internet worldwide, but it only usually takes a few hours for you to be able to see it. Once live, we will then update your Google Business Profile to ensure it is found.
Timescales largely depend upon the projects we already have scheduled when you enquire and also how soon you’re able to approve the planning stages.
The guidelines below are a good indication of sensible turnaround times that include planning, design and development up to being launch-ready. We can always quote a more accurate time at the proposal stage.
• Up to 5 pages: 3-4 weeks
• 5-10 pages: 4-5 weeks
• 11 pages plus: 6-8 weeks
Be sure to let us know if you need it completed for a particular date and we’ll do our best to accommodate your deadline.
Yes, of course, we can provide you with a full website plan for guidance on what to include and keyword research so you know what your customers are searching for.
In our experience, there are some disadvantages of supplying your own content. Unless you’re a professional writer, you will find it difficult to write about yourself and your business in a way that your prospective customer wants to read it. Please note that we won’t be able to schedule your website build until we have received and checked the content you supply.
We know from experience that it can often take longer for clients to prepare the content than anticipated, often due to reliance on multiple members of staff or resources coming from different sources.
Business owners we know that have added AI generated content to their website have experienced a drop in website traffic and enquiries. There are a few reasons for this.
Google wants their customers to find original, useful and relevant content when they ‘Google’ something. As AI uses information that’s already on the internet, originality is not going to be achieved.
Customers also want to see information that accurately represents you as a provider. AI is never going to be able to describe how someone is to work with, or what it’s like to eat in a particular restaurant, or what it feels like to visit a particular venue or shop. Neither will it be able to accurately describe the specific benefits of a product that is unique in your industry or how it feels to use your product.
We’re not suggesting that AI is a terrible tool or that you shouldn’t use it. It can provide fantastic guidance on what to include and even write something that gives you a starting point. We don’t recommend that you use exactly what it spits out.
To build a high quality professional website takes years of experience to learn. If you wish to edit your site yourself (typically people want to add blogs), we can provide training for you on a video call of how to do this correctly and set you up as an editor of the site. This will enable you to feel confident about making changes without breaking things. We also provide you with a video to refresh your memory later if you forget.
Drop us a message about your requirements and we’ll get in touch.
